Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

Had to go get a spot of welding done today. Took the Jag. In the welder's gargae was a TR4-A. He's an old Vietnam-Vet SeaBee, so we had some USN stories.....and in his garage is a red TR4-A he bought new in 1967, back from 'nam, drove it for a dozen years or so, been parked in the garage for 30. NO rust bubbles I could see....nice shape. Bonnet was open, so while he was welding, I got the VIN:

CTC74892
IRS, no OD.

I have his phone number, told him I was gona call him every six months until he had it on the road again.

Re: Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

Not sure. He is proud of the car......but hasn't done anything with it in three decades. I will be talking to him again.

Thanks for the update. It so happens a friend of mine just started looking for a LBC. If he decides to sell, I can put my friend in touch... thanks again!

Re: Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

I would offer him some help in getting the car back on the road. You may find a new friend.

Re: Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

I did.
We even know some of the same folks.
He knows about Moss, so the bits he needs he can get.
Heated garage, so basically rubber and hydraulics.

If he hasn't done anything on it in 30 years, he never will. Unless you push him.

We've all seen these types of cars rust into the ground because people won't sell them beccuase "one day I'm going to restore it".

Re: Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

I know that, which is why I told him I would call every six months to see if it was running.
I MAY just "drop by" periodically with a boot full of tools.....

He sounds like the kind of guy who should pay you to get
it up & running.Remind him that he won't be around forever,& may
never enjoy driving it if he doesn't get moving on it.

Re: Sort of "spotted", but Triumph

I did offer to help.
My guess is, based upon his times in 'nam, and knowing when I went in, he is just about at full SS Retirement age, or within a year.
I am guessing he is waiting for retirement to tackle it.
Unfortunately, retirement often doesn't give us the time we think we'll have for these projects.
