Sorry,but not Sorry

That's a great idea! My remote garage door opener on my new Telluride is a button on the rear view mirror. Just for grins, I unlocked my car from within the house and went out without the key fob to see if I could open the garage. I could! That is not a good scenario! I wonder how hard it would be to re-fuse that circuit to a fuse location that requires the car to be on? Might have to look into that.
All it took for me was a simple $5 relay that is energized when the ignition is on.

How do people drive off with modern vehicles if they do not have a key. The days of hot wiring a car are long gone.
We have had 2 You Haul trucks stolen in Macon in the last year. Both were parked in hotel parking lots over night.
Hard to think people would leave the key in a truck and go to bed. On both occasions they were traveling through town on a cross country move and the truck had all the household possessions.

You might try the test again, this time just leave it unlocked in your garage and come back in 10 minutes and see if the opener works. It’s possible that when you unlocked the car with the key fob from inside your house it energized the homelink mirror. Just a thought.

Haha, I got ya all beat, I haven't got a garage. You can't break into what's not there. 🤣

wow - imagine a 1930s mechanic trying to understand what that all means.
