Hello All -

Anyone in NoCal this weekend wanting to take in some of the best vintage racing on the west coast, short of Monterey, the Sonoma Historics are taking place, https://generalracing.com

Dennis Adair in the ex-Grant Clark 3000S # 171 and I in my 100-SIX MM # 414 are pitted together and will be racing in Sundays feature for 55-62 GT cars at 11:10. This weekend's event is the closest you'll probably ever get to some of the 350 rare and one of a kind cars.

Great Photo Dougie. Didn't the Grant Clark car sell at auction a couple of years ago for a very reasonable price for its history?

Looks like a great weekend of racing. I'm off to Goodwood today for a Healeysport Sprint. The weather is fantastic and I'm looking forward to the drive down in my car. I'm calling in at Bill Rawles Classic Cars on the way. He builds and races Healeys.

Here is a photo of my car ready to go. (apologies for the poor i-phone pic)

I wonder if one of these cars will be racing at Sonoma?.

It is a Bocar XP5. Built by Bob Carnes in Colorado between 1957-1961. There were about 15 XP5s produced of which about 5 survive. Incredibly 2 of them are in the Cotswolds within 2 miles of my house!

Small block Chevy, Mickey Thompson head, weighs about 1600 lbs, top speed 175 mph. This particular car was fitted with a 2.8 diff and the owner could not fully release the clutch in first gear as the car went too fast for the lanes around his workshop! He burned out the clutch on his first test drive. He's now switched it to a 4.1.

Dougie,

I'm assuming today (Friday) was your first day on the track for the ensuing weekend battle. How's that fresh motor doing?

Your car looks great, have fun at Goodwood. I wish I could have one of Bills motors, I think he builds one of the strongest.

Hello Richard -

My freshened motor did well today, I didn't push it too hard and still finished in the top 10 out of 35. I didn't have enough juice to run down Tom Price in his Ferrari 250 GTO however. This was about as close as I could get to one of the worlds most expensive cars.
It was well driven today......

I've seen the Bocar Stiletto race a few times. What a wild machine:

Update from last weeks race in Sonoma, car and drive finished well. With a fresh motor and a little rust on the armor, I was please with my 9th place
overall finish out of 44 cars. Team Healey PDX represented the marque well, which included 4th in class behind 2 Corvettes and a Ferrari. Dennis Adair also had a good outing in the ex-Grant Clark Championship winning 3000 # 171 finishing 13th overall and 5th in class.

The weather was great, the racing was awesome and the Sonoma wine offerings were spectacular.....

Great driving Dougie.

What camera do you have in the car. Looks crystal clear.

The Ferrari was puffing oil smoke all the way round. Expensive rebuild coming up?

Hello Derek -

I'm using the new GoPro 3. I'm very happy with the results. The smoking car was actually Terry Cowan in his AH Sebring Sprite. It had a new motor and the rings weren't seated.

Rick,

I should have known that as I know Paul Woolmer and often see him at race meetings. He looks after a couple of other famous cars including OON 440, EVV 106 and ARX 57B.
