I agree, a real energy saver. I lived near Swindon, UK in the early nineties. I used to navigate the "magic roundabout" often. Hope we don't get one of these!!!

I'd say the designer of that one certainly did some crop-circle studies!!!! Circles within circles!!!!

Yes, that particular one is a nightmare, makes one wonder what the designer was smoking at the time.

These traffic islands work really well, but an awful lot depends on the competence of the drivers that are negotiating them.

I also grew up with 'round-abouts' but we called them rotaries. Seemed to be efficient.

They are growing like weeds in Northern Colorado too. Seems they are all the rage. Locals are getting more used to them which is nice. Though a few people in big trucks still feel that might makes right and don't car about right of way on them. That can be sort of tense.

I first encountered on of those in Perth Australia. Man was I in trouble, driving for the first time (one day) on the wrong side of the road, and at night to boot. It was almost like bumper cars...
