Somebody buy this owner's manual before I do

My Phase 1 came with an "Austin-Healey 3000 Mks I and II Driver's Handbook" AKD 3915 dated 8/63 and supplement AKD 3915/1 "Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III Sports Convertible Series BJ8" "Supplement to be used in conjunction with Driver's Handbook AKD 3915" and no date.

Saniloc, that is very interesting information! I have written to the person who posted the ad. Since it is from 2008, the chances of getting a response are probably not very good.
Yes, it sounds as if the car has been parted out and no longer exists.

Thanks for letting me know!

Would you believe that 36666 was built in 6/66? The Healey from He-double hockeysticks!

I was amazed that I was able to get in touch with the guy who posted the ad for sale of HBJ8L/34530 in 2008. He responded, and provided another contact for the car -- a business that was going to restore it. Maybe it wasn't parted out after all. I'm hot on its trail!

Good thread! I've heard from someone else who is in possession of the original Passport to Service for HBJ8L/42472G that he found in the glove box of a car (not 42472) he bought in 1973. It has the original metal i.d. plate for the original owner, identifies the dealer that sold it, the first owner's name and address, and a record of service performed during the first 6000 miles. The BJ8 Registry happens to have a record of the current whereabouts of 42472 (in Australia), so we may be able to reunite another original document with the car it belongs to. Stay tuned!

Anyone who has such documents (BJ8s only) and would be interested in returning them to the car they originally belonged to, please let me know. With almost half of the BJ8s originally manufactured in the registry now, there's a good chance we can find the car.

Forgive me for hi-jacking this thread but does anyone else have a black/silver tag screwed onto the firewall with the year of the car on it? I have only seen a handful of these over the years. Is this a California only thing (someone told me that years ago)?

Like the one that says '67 BMC, My '67 has one on her& she's been in WA. all her life except when original owner took delivery in England while in the Navy.

Rich, if you are looking to acquire a (black and white, not black and silver) BMC-XX tag I can't help you, but I can confirm that the tags were only on cars delivered to California, at least based on the evidence in the BJ8 registry.
Apparently, it was a California requirement that the manufacturer's name and the year of manufacture be identified somewhere on a car. Since the BMC VIN did not have a code for that information, the BMC-XX tags were applied to the firewall. Many I have seen were attached with one of the VIN plate screws.
I do not know if the tags were attached before the cars left the factory or if they were applied by a distributor or the individual dealers in California. The tags all look alike, so they appear to have come from a central source. Some photos of examples have been sent directly to you.
Another California quirk is that the two-digit year of manufacture (or "model year", which can be different)was prefixed to the factory VIN on registrations and titles, which has caused problems for cars that were later sold out of California when the paperwork VIN did not agree exactly with the number on the VIN tag.
