Always liked this welcome screen, I'm sorry they changed it. Progress is inevitable I guess. PJ

Going back in time, Remember this? Windows apps :highly_amused: Here the upgrades were welcome. :encouragement:

Paul - why not use that screen as your "desktop"?

Also, here's one of my favorite old welcome screens:

And I still have the Osborne.

You guys!

LOL, Yes back in those dark ages, the help screen was upfront most of the time and was, very welcome! :highly_amused:

Paul - note what's on that screen:

WordStar
SuperCalc
MS BASIC

Remember when we actually used computers mostly for work instead of mostly for fun?

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't it when Word Perfect or Wordstar came out it had a hundred or so hand typed in commands? I remember having a sheet of paper with all the commands written down, I think it was WP, could be wrong. PJ

Hadn't thought about WP for a long time. All my clients used it at one point, then transitioned to MS warez.

I still have my old Zorba CP/M computer. It has Wordstar and Calcstar, and both still work. Massive storage with 2 drives - 5 1/4" and 360K each capacity. It was a terrific learning tool in the early days of computers.

I agree 100%! Best watch I ever had and that includes some high price watches. When the Timex battery went bad, it was cheaper to toss it and buy a new one, which was usually cheaper than a new battery. Great watch! PJ

My desktop is about 10 years old, uses Windows XP and locks up when surfing Youtube - a major PITA. Time to buy another one. This was a Dell. Don't know whether to get another desktop, all-in-one or a laptop. I hate to have to dispose of a perfectly good Dell 17" monitor. Trouble is best Buy only carries laptops in store. Any suggestions?

Thom McAn's in Worcester MA. My first experience with computers. I likened the programers to royalty and being allowed in the Clean Room was a very big deal. Key punch cards sure did trigger that memory.

My first computer used 8" floppy discs.

My first computer used magnetic core memory, had gigantic magnetic drums for storage (capacity in kbytes), used half a million vacuum tubes and took a building with the floor space of a football field to house! ! :cool-new:
