Some people

We had some..........non-citizens.........who were doing that with a pit bull two doors down.

Took a local and Fed DEA raid and a deportation to get it to stop two doors down.

Probably came back and settled in New Yawk.

basil, i love all animals but i favor cats as my pets, i could see myself becoming unhuman in my treatmant toward "people?" that would do what they have done.

Dog fighting is big in N.O. They were snatching other smaller dogs to train them with. Needless to say, Oscar was never left out in the yard often and I was "prepared" for anyone who had any cute ideas.

But it just goes to show you, it's not the treatment, it's animal in question. Let's look at feeding snakes for example. You can feed a snake rats and mice all day long and no one says anything, but toss it a kitten and suddenly it's animal cruelty. "But a kitten is a pet", you say. Some folks keep mice and rats as pets, what about them? "But a kitten isn't a snakes natural prey", when in fact, ANY small animal is a snakes natural prey.

Now I don't own snakes or feed them kittens, I'm just using that as an example. It's funny how the rules change when it comes to the animal in question.

....and when you think about it, a cat is probably the most cruel animal there is. Every seen a cat with a mouse or lizard? They torture them to death and eat them alive and no one says anything. Some owners ever brag about the poor helpless little animals their cat tortured to death and brought to them. At least a dog will kill whatever it has in it's mouth quickly and doesn't play with it.

Speaking of which, that cat in that picture looks awf'ly plump.... and that aquarium awful empty... :eeek:

But yes, that's a horrible thing they are doing no matter how you look at it.

.and it's not unlawful for people to eat dogs or cats in this country; just to serve them to the public without them knowing.

On a lighter note, it would appear the sport of cat juggling is on the decline.

I'm speechless.

...so is the cat that ate the canary. :smirk:

It all appears to be a matter of perception. It's funny how we have imposed rules on the food chain for some, but not for others (animals).

There is other cultures that do things that would make our skin crawl. I'm strongly agaist dog fighting, beit with or without training animals. Cock fighting doesn't bother me so much, but maybe that's cause I like fried chicken, but I don't suport it either. It seems blood sports are on the rise in genral. UFC doesn't help matters either.

Myself personally, I prefer to leave creatures be...except for alligators.

Those I have no use for.

Hey, there's an idea, sentence the dog fighting guys to hand feeding crocks at the zoo.

I only had two cats in my life and both were REALLY great animals. Both are gone now.

There is a quite a difference between one animal going after another in nature and someone using an animal specifically to train another animal to kill. I understand the snake example and if you keep a predatory animal as a pet that needs to eat live food then you do have to have "feeder" animals. As unpleasant or ironic as it is. Anybody with a salt water fishtank with predatory fish can follow along with that idea as well.

Domestic cats play with their food because they never really leave "kitten stage". Wild cats kill quickly and efficiently.

In the article referred to though it wasn't about "feeding" the dogs as it was about using the kittens (there was also another story about a group using puppies) to bait the dogs into a killing frenzy.

It was about cruelty, not diet. Two sides of cruelty there, to the bait animals yes but also the dogs being used for fighting entertainment.

kellys guy, im in total agreement!!! next time i want a steak ill just "torture" a cow to death, ill take a good 6-8 hours doing it, what the heck mans got to eat right?.

Bingo!
boss, i got that, so how did we get from people that torture kittens to the various dietery habits of wild animals as per my friend "and i mean that" kellys guy?. think killing-survival, killing-survival......torture-makes money-torture-makes money.....im going to my corner of the sofa now and pet my cat, so there! :tired:

Oh no, I wasn't defending the pratice or saying it was o.k or that cats had it comming. Please understand that !!! I'm against it no matter if another animal is involved or not. I'm against it PERIOD !!!

I was just making a point of the fact we have a different set of rules for different animals as well as different people. Many o' possum (sic) has gone to the great beyond simply for commiting the crime of being an ugly animal.

Matter of fact, take the kittin out and throw in a possum, and most folks feelings change a bit even though it doesn't make it any less cruel.

It was an excersise to show how our emotions play a role in how we feel about how different animals are treated, even though the treatment is the same.

It's even the same here at my house. My wife has issued a standing order that all snakes in the yard must die, even the good ones. Now you have to understand my wife, she is the sweetest and most compassionate and loving person towards animals you could ever find. She fears for the baby birds that the snakes eat. I'm persoanlly not fond of the practice, but if she says you gotta die, well...

She is also the same person who gets upset if she sees a dead possum on the side of the road.

I know the good snakes eat rats that eat wires in English cars. All I have to say is thank God for the neighbor's cat....

kellysguy, now theres something i understand, every time we pass a dead posum on the road my wife also gets upset cuz im going to fast for her to jump out and retrive it.

See, this is exactly what I mean. They are out pets that we chose to like and rationalize their behavior. It doesn't make it any less cruel just because, "they never leave kitten stage."

Think about it, we can't blame the poor little kitty, right? He was just playing around and is after all...a kitten still. ( sounds like something my wife would say.)

Watch the animal planet and wild kingdom enough and you will in fact see big cats eating things alive.

Anthony, you'll go on the sofa and pet the cat, but will you go out back and pet the possum ?!?!?!?!?! :jester:
