I've got green onions hanging too. This is one of my favorite. Purple basil on top.

I think he & his wife make them, I want to know what he did this time to make Basil purple. :devilgrin:
 
I made it ( my wife is a proffesional potter). I made probably 15 or 20 total. Selling a few here and there. I think I have already sold about 9 or so. Currently looking into doing the Mandeville Farmer's Market. Very limited production. That one belongs to me. I have some similar. I really enjoy making them. Takes about 7 days start to finish to make one before planting. Planting them is my favorite part.

Hopefully I won't be makin' Basil turn colors anymore.

FAR more attractive than those bright green Topsy-Turvy plastic bags.
Is there anything special in the pot, Or is it just open on both ends? I'd love to see the pot without a plant in it.
Excellent work. I bet they sell like hotcakes.
 
I don't have pics of the inside and all are planted right now.

That's the reason I made them, for folks who don't want a plastic bag hangning in their yard. Those plastic bag ones don't last long either. You're lucky to get a season out of them. Mine are good for life.
 
Seriously, can I buy one? Would love to put an order in, especially because of the fact that they are so unique, and beautiful.
 
Sure, I'm always happy when a friend wants one. I hate to see them go to strangers, although, I met a great guy the other day who bought one. I had purple basil and tyme in the top of that one and oregano in the bottom. He bought it not realizing it had herbs in it. He was really happy then.

You want planted or unplanted? I've got some nice planted ones right now. I'll have to get pics of them. I see if I can get some pics right now.
 
Unplanted. Want to rig it myself. What keeps the tomato bush from falling out the bottom? Let me know, cost plus shipping. You can send a personal message if you want.
 
And I want it signed by your wife, the potter. Unless of course that doubles the price. :whistle:

She said we have two more here unglazed somewhere. She's not home right now and I can't find them. I'll get you pics of them and you can choose the color from what we have here. I think both the ones are vase shaped. I probably should make some more today. We weren't going to do the round ones anymore, but I should be able to crank one out for a friend.

Planting them is super easy. I use a TRD to keep the palnt in. ( Tomato Retention Device.)

I'll have to show you how it works. You can plant it yourself over and over again in a few minutes. The plants stay in remarkably well. Once they root good, the stem will break before the plant pulls out. I need to do a youtube video of how to plant them, but it's nothing that can't be explained over the phone or email.
 
Nice work! My wife made her living as an artist for many years (mostly stained glass and metal work, some painting) and is just starting with pottery. I took a couple of classes on the wheel last year but am still a beginner. We just added a room to the house to serve as a studio. At this point it'll mostly be just a hobby for us.

I like the glaze. (Just took a glazing class - wow! There's a lot to learn about this ancient craft.)

She took over my shop and the wheel is in part of the living room. I don't want her outside when it's real hot or cold. She is a proffesional artist. She teaches classes three times a week and has stuff in several galleries and the River Walk. I suck at glazing. She has to glaze the planters cause I suck at it so badly.


She mixes most of her own glazes. Real science stuff there. Too much for me to bother with. I'll have to post some pics of her work when I can get some.
 
The process has begun. Might do something different texture wise on this one. I hope it doesn't turn out too good, I might keep it.

Pot has been formed. Clay is a bit too wet for further manipulation so it' needs to sit a while. Will resume tommorrow. ( probably will have pics too.)
 
Pic is a bit dark but you can see the details better. This one should turn out exactly like the one pictured above ( same color too). This will be one of two like this, but no two are the same.
