Solid state conversion of Lucas regulator

I'm looking for information on solid state conversion of a Lucas regulator. What has been the experience with these units? Pros and cons? Who does the conversion?

Many thanks.

Are you inquiring about the generator control box? There is a good write-up on that at the MGA Guru web site.

One or two members here have made that conversion and at last report they liked it. Hopefully they will see your post soon and reply.

I had this advertisement and have tried to telephone Mr. Jeffers, but no answer. The add dates to 2005, so I wonder if the fellow is still in the business. If he is, I'll inquire about the conversion.

But it would also be great to know what experience people have had these units. For the moment, I'm not having any great problem with my new Lucas regulator, but I constantly hear how poor and undependable they are. The folks at my shop went through three new regulators before they found one that worked properly!

Bob Jeffer returned my call and has let me know the information he would need from me if I decided to have the conversion done.

Still would like some input from people who have made the conversion and used these solid state units. Pros and cons.

Many thanks.

I can't remember the name of the last guy who installed this conversion. What I do remember is that he is from Hawaii and starts all his posts with "Aloha". Randall might remember his name.

Aloha Ed,

I've had Bob convert one of mine to a solid state unit that I use in my TR3A daily driver. I've been using it probably for a year now. It works fine for me and I've had no problems it. Installed in the car, it will look original until you remove the cover. I will soon have Bob convert the original, but not working control box for my MG TF.
