I've a bit of a dilemma. I ~want~ to put a set of SLR/SFT driving lights (one of each) on the bumper of the B. My wallet (not to mention SWMBO) disallow purchase ATM.

Here's the dilemma: I have a set of Lucas "Square Eight" lights in-hand. They're not "period" for a '64, BUT:I could mount those, do the wiring, relays et al RIGHT NOW and later buy/mount the other units... should I go ahead and grind the holes in the bumper and schtupp the S-Eights onna car or WAIT?

Judges?

As long as they are Lucas all is well with the world.

I'd vote for a wait as well. Since this is not a "got to have it now" sort of thing, you won't be happy without the real deal. Wait for what you really want.

Wait - they won't look right, you'll always be unhappy, & then you'll have holes in a perfectly good bumper!

Oddly enough I did exactly what you're suggesting years ago when my 'B was just a used car. (Lucas rectangular lights on a '64)

But rather than drilling holes in the bumper I got some brackets that used screws to clamp to the bumper and then the lights were fitted to the brackets. It saved drilling and allowed me to easily re-position or remove the lights. I later took them off and used them on another car.

It was a neat and very effective temporary mount. I wouldn't do it to a concours bumper, as I recall the screws did leave indentations- but I fixed that on the next installation by using little hard plastic buffers between the screws and bumper. FWIW....

Don't know whether these type of brackets are still made/available, but it might be worth a look if you're interested....

Not that I ever have any opinions, but yea, wait, if you really want the others. Make out your Holiday Wish List and put the lights down 472 times. Got a birthday coming up soon?

Or, ummm, bribe, beg, cajole, plead, bargain (did I mention beg) SWMBO. Women love it when men grovel.

James, you've inspired me! Brackets it is!!!

But UNDER the bumper, and mount 'em low! Plenty of room there, removable and NO HOLES! WOOHOO!!!

That was easy!!

Thankeuverrymuch, James!!!

THX Steve. It even *RUNS!* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Now I gotta finish interior, adjust/tweak a few things... It's been a long two years (I've done it in a couple months in the past)!

Now I think the shape is great under the bumper, goes along with the turn signals.

But, Doc - a front license plate???????

B'day was Aug 5... no lights then. Doubt they'll show up at Christmas either.

But at least on the "Semi-Annual In-Law Trek" (plan to make the 500 mi. Christmas round trip in the B) I'll be able to *SEE*!!!!

Look like they were made just for that spot Doc. Don't think you could have done better.

Doc, Those lights look great! I kinda like them better than the round ones above. They have that, "I belong there look". Very nice! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif PJ
