Soft clutch

Hi All.
Here in NE Ohio W Penn it was simply a glorious weekend for driving with the top down. Hope other members enjoyed it as much as I did.

Anyhow my question is this. My Spitfire drove great Friday no issues at all (50+ miles). Saturday (20 miles)I noticed the clutch felt soft and engaged very close to the floor. I took it out of gear and pumped it a bit and the pressure resumed, along with engagement further up, as I'm used to. Sunday (50+ miles) same issue, all I had to do was give it a couple of taps and the pressure returned. This did not seem to affect the car's overall performance. Fluid level seems normal and I did not detect any leaks. The cap for the clutch cylinder is a little chewed up, but I'm doubting that is the culprit.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Assuming no leaks, sounds like there's some air in the system somewhere. Time to do a little "blood-letting"? Bleeding the system may clear it up. I'd replace the cap, as well...
