I probably shouldn't admit to being this dumb, but:

I ALWAYS take my watch off when I work on most anything. Yesterday I think I blew a head gasket on my TR3. I got busy tearing her down and left my watch on, and the battery's positivce cable connected (pos ground). Naturally my watch band touched the solenoid terminal and literally welded the hasp closed. That part of the band got red hot and instantly blistered my left wrist. When I tried to remove the band, I blistered my right thumb. After "quenching" in the sink, I had to pry the hasp open with a screw driver. Remarkably, the Seiko is working fine.

THAT... Takes Talent! How many other people can weld on themselves?
 
Wife says that's great but my Seiko did not survive the washer and dryer. The hands are laying in a cluster and the Seiko emblem is hanging.
I took it off and put it in my pocket to work on the car, maybe I should wear rubber shoes and leave it on when and if I ever get it fixed.

...one of my clients is a Seiko dealer, Russ. Just so's ya know.

All "jewelry" and any other bling are removed before working on any vehicle. That and belt buckles off-center. The Old Man was adamant about it and there are plenty of tales similar to Russ' to re-enforce the practice.
 
But... but....

Double ouch. I am always after husband to take his watch off. He does and then throws it wherever he has thrown his glasses. I mean, like really throwing them. On bench, on lift, inside car. He is so darn careless. Are you ready for this, he has a beautiful Rolex that he wears all the time (Got it about ten years ago with found money, that is to say unexpected.) and he finally took it to have it cleaned. Well the watch looks great as it should after $645.00 plus tax and as we were picking it up, she commented that he must take exceptionally good care of it as nothing major needed to be done. At $600 plus I didn't even want to know what major would have been.

Anyway I digress. That sure looks painful and I think we have all learned a good lesson. Sorry it was at your expense.
