So what's the deal with naming your car.

I may have posted this before, but my father had an Austin Seven special, based mostly on an original Brooklands, that he named Roberta. Unfortunately it got written off in about 1951, in a contretemps with a milk lorry in Cornwall.

The name was derived from the film of that name, particularly because of some of the songs 'Lovely to look at', 'Smoke gets in your eyes', 'I won't dance', and 'I'll be hard to handle'.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif Now, THAT makes sense!

I've always loved cars to the point of believing they have personalities, but never really named them until I got my MINI in 2003. She had so much personality, it just seemed like she needed a name. Since then every car I've bought has also seemed name-worthy...

'03 MINI "Nittany" (blue with a white roof)
'73 1800ES - "The Sexy Swede"
'79 Spitfire - "Baldrick" named for the character from "The Black Adder" who was small and usually filthy. Perfect description of the Spit after we drove him out of the PO's muddy driveway the day I bought him!
'07 MINI convertible - "Dougal", the idiot sidekick from another Britcom called "Father Ted".

Heheheeee! You ARE old Alan! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
