So what's the deal with naming your car.

Just for laughs -

I know many of you do and I get quite a lot of laughs over some of the names that I see for your cars (especially your 911 Julian!!) But personally I've never named any of the 50 +- cars that I've owned. Except for Crusty (the donor car). Just because it fits, don't you think so?

I also never imparted/conveyed a sex to my machines although many call them "her", or "girl." Again lol on this. I would think that if I did, it would certainly be male. Since male would connote a stronger, robust beast that I could beat on. Never owned a girly car, except for a 66 Rambler American and I think it was gender neutral anyways.

So, what are the names of your cars and why did you name IT such. Our cars are always ITs and usually called their true name - the 3A, the 4A, the truck, etc.

Anybody go so far as to have a tatoo of their car's given name?

I'd call yours Brokeback Triumph Mountain. It looks painfull.
I call mine "Road Bisquit" ( for no real reason) but consider it an "it", no gender.

I had a dog once named Dawg and before that a dog named Sunday, because that was the day we got him. My Nissan pickup is referred to as the truck. My TR6 is the six or just the Triumph, or ^&*(&, or the money pit depending on what is going on.

My daughter dubbed my TR3A "the fast car" many years ago.

My TR-3 doesnt have a name per se, but once it is finished, licensed and drivable the license plate may have Lorna on it. Only because the car was originaly purchased by my Father as a B day present for my Mother. Both sence deceased.
I MAY even inscribe thier names in old english on the windwings {of course IF I do, I plan to have Two sets of windwings, one with thier names and one without.}
Nothing set in stone tho, It could be I put the family last name on the plate, I really havn`t decided yet.
Up to date the car has always been refered to as "The Tr"

I call my RED Chev-er-lay 4x4 pickup "Dale" because it, well, seems to fit.

I used to call my TR3 Tommy Triumph. Aliteration. I have also called him Ole Blue, a name given him by John Warfield, until I heard of Uncle Jack Drews' car of the same name. Now I just call him The Blue TR3, a name I gave to him to differentiate him from The TR3 Racecar, which was white. The TR3 Racecar, which had no name, is long gone, yet the moniker The Blue TR3 is still used by some of the Boffins here.

I have always considered Triumphs to be male.

No need, IMO ... any judge that would ding you for that needs a heart transplant !

I call mine many names.
The only one that doesn't have only 4 letters however is Christine...

Prior to the 3 cars we have now, my cars have never had names. These 3 just seemed to find their names:
<ul>[*]Hyundai Accent: "The Muw" (pronounced "moo") -- came from the letters on the license plate[*]Isuzu Rodeo Sport: "The Sprout" -- it's green, my brother-in-law called it a Rodeo Sprout and it stuck.[*]Bugeye Sprite: "The Tunebug" -- All the money spent buying and repairing this car has come from playing music.[/list]
Strangely enough, we think of all the vehicles as male. It's a little silly for sure, but then again, so are we. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I remember feeling that if I were going to get to know that car I needed to give it a name.. a good British sounding name. And yeah, I was able to determine it's gender at first sight. It's a gift.

My wife named our TR3 skinny butt.

I don't name them either, I talk to them but don't name them, they know to whom I'm speaking.
That's quite a stout half shaft your donar is sporting, toss the taber at the triumph.

Alana: I call DPO Pedro many four lettered names!!

My car is named Amos after a hard working, reliable Amish
farmer. Just Amos, neither he or she but sometimes it.

Also called "The Old Car". As in, "Let's take the Old Car
to the biker bar."

I've never been one to name cars. My brother loaned me his TR4 while I was in college one year and it acquired the name "nostalgic sports car". It stuck for a long time. My truck is "truck". My TR6, the TR6. There was a time we refered to the alfa as "the little car".

I'm thinking of naming the TR3. Since I've purchased parts from at least 90 different cars, I'm thinking of "little franky", as in Frankenstein. -the plates may say "KATR3NA" since the car was flooded in hurricane Katrina.

I do find myslef talking to the cars. Sometimes, specific parts of the car, but usually the car as a unit. Like 'come on now, I know this hurts, but it will feel better if you let go of this bolt'.

Sometimes I peg the weird needle.

I've thought about naming my car but have gotten nowhere with it. I refer to it mostly as the TR or the Triumph. I know that at one time most cars were of the female gender but I kind of go with what some of you talk about as a robust car and that if it had a gender it would be male. I keep hoping that after it is all together and I start driving it something will come up and I won't have to even think about it. Mostly I call it "the project".

No name for mine and even I'm not sick enough to do the tattoo routine.

Someone here dubbed it a "big banana" once, which I thought was funny at the time. Just that time, though....

My Midget was dubbed "Little Satan" by the local LBC mechanics and my husband...I call him Idgy (Fried Green Tomatoes at the WhistleStop Cafe by Fannie Flag)
We call the MGB--The Blue Demon for now, but once he/she proves his/her road worthiness...we will have a more suitable name I'm sure.
I have always named my cars...some male, some female. It sort of depends on how they strike me.

No names. Just the 3, the 6 and the Healey.
When I received the plate for my first 6 and saw the first letters TBD, first thing to mind was "Too Bad Doug". More of a premonition than a name.
