Dale JR leaves DEI

Talk about a major shake up in the NASCAR ranks! Now I'm no fan of Jr. (not much of a NASCAR fan anymore really), but I am well aware of the huge impact this young man has on the fan base. But one has to wonder what his dad would think about this move.

Wish him luck!

Isn't this a power struggle between him & his stepmother?

I'm sure that is playing a part in his choice to walk away from DEI. Truthfully depending on what sponsors (Bud, Wrangler etc.) leave with JR, I think it'll hurt DEI the most.

Budweiser said their contract goes where Junior goes.

Never liked Spudweiser but I think the fall out from all this going to hit folks pretty hard at DEI.

I wonder if JR will be in a position to purchase DEI from his step-mom in a year or so? Hmmm? Maybe thats the plan?

Im not a nascar fan! I find it rather boring! Although I do suppose the "SuperStar" will have his way.

He already owns his own company that has cars racing in other venues...now he's hinting he may bring his cars to NASCAR (competing with stepmom?). Could be he's making a move to take over his dad's company - what would DEI be without DE, Jr?

You & me both, Kerry.

I second...err... fourple, no... sixple that sentiment.

Brock Yates once said "The only thing more tedious than watching
the Daytona 500, would be watching it played backwards."

I'm in total agreement...

I basically stopped watching Speed when it became the NASCAR channel!

Ok guys, you DON'T like NASCAR. That and $.75 will buy you a Coke. The QUESTION is would Sr. be proud of Jr. I think Sr. would be very proud of his son striking out on his own. He was able to get out from the family pressure and do what HE wants and needs to do, not what is expected of him. Now if he goes to RCR and takes his fathers #, there's not enough T shirts in the world to print "3" on. Personally, I hope it doesn't happen. Dale Jr. racing against some other people. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Better question would be: Is Sr. proud of what his (what) 3rd wife is doing to the family business?

THAT's th' $64K question.

... And I see "Toyota" in there someplace, too. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

He'd kick some JUNIOR Butt.......

I have been a NASCAR fan since the 60's. I think they ruined the sport when they took the STOCK out of stock cars. It is getting too commersialized and the drivers are too slick. I guess the redneck in me would like to see some Lee Petty's, Cale Yarboro's and Junior Johnson's. These guys were the roots of NASCAR. I still watch out of habit, but not as much as I did.

In the words of the famous philisopher---Oh well!!

I too used to be a fan of NASCAR back in the 60's (tough trick for a kid from Southern Kalifornia where races didn't get air time) but gradually got away from it because I didn’t like the transition from “real” stock cars and purpose built race cars that had nothing in common with the cars we saw at the local dealership. Today their no better with the so called “Car of the Future”. But there was something about Stock Car racing early on that I enjoyed. I think it was the notion that you could view a race over the weekend – then (in theory) Monday morning walk into a showroom & purchase a car that wasn’t all that different than what you’d seen racing the day before.

But if I had to pick one single event that totally turned me off to NASCAR – it’d have to be the introduction of restrictor plates.
