So what is t he trick for getting the ujoints out?

Dale,

Do you still have your pictures? Need a little visual help here.

Re: So what is t he trick for getting the ujoints

Yup, got the photo:

After you dig out the retaining circular clip-

You'll need need two sockets, a hammer,
a screwdriver, a bench grinder and a pair
of strong channel lock pliers.

One socket slightly larger than the end cap
diameter and one slightly small than the end
cap diameter.

Support one of the u-joint end caps over the
larger diameter socket. Place the smaller diameter
socket on the opposite end cap and pound it with
the hammer. This will drive a portion of the end
cap into the larger diameter socket-like maybe
5/16" will be exposed.

Take the u-joint over to your bench grinder and
grind off half the end cap as shown in the photo.
Once the needle bearings are exposed, dump them out.

Use the screwdriver to pry the end cap further out.
Grab the end cap edge with the pliers and you should
be able to wiggle it off.

Reverse process for other end.
Hope this helps. I know there are easier ways to
accomplish this task but I did not have a hydraulic
press available to use.
