Have an chance to buy them at a reasonable price. They appear very straight, but should I be concerned about their strength etc?

I'd put them on the TR4a and use them for fast road use (especially now that the engine rebuild has been completed)

As I understand from discussions here regarding my original American Racing Silverstones, the real issue is whether there are any cracks. Others can chime in with more info.
 
It's magnesium that you have to worry about (mostly). Those look like aluminum wheels. Maybe Appliance brand slots from the correct era. Quite an offset from the size of the lip.

If you can rig up a spinner, they should be pretty easy to clean up and polish.
 
If you are talking the wheels then I don't see an issue unless you see issues. If you are talking the tires then old tires (sitting for years) should be disposed of.
 
I've got a set of those myself. Aluminum alloy (not magnesium) and very sturdy. I'd say that, if there are no obvious cracks or damage, they are most likely fine.

Note that the special lug nuts can be a bit hard/expensive to find. The shank of the nut has to fit snugly in the hole, as that is what locates the wheel, and be the right length to reach mostly through the wheel but not bottom against the hub. They also should have special heavy flat washers. The lug nuts & washers wound up costing me more than the wheels did ...
 
I rebored my KN wheels to accept standard shank diameter lugs. I used McGard lugs and save muchos.
 
You can probably get a nice center cap from Konig or another brand to fit the empty hole.
 
Are the bolts 7/16 diameter like the stock ones? How long are they? What are McGard lugs and where do you get themé Thanks Karl
 
McGard brand chrome lug nuts are sold at nearly every auto store. They're good quality and inexpensive, if that's possible.

You'll need to take in an old lug to match up the length you need. TR2-6 use 7/16-20 lug nuts. If the McGard standard lugs are too big in diameter to fit your wheels, do as I did and have the wheels rebored. Then you'll never have to buy expensive special lug nuts again.

I'll have to double check the lug nuts, unfortunately a couple are missing.

The wheels are US Indy Mags - as the collective "we" though. They are 14x7s.

When you get a chance, measure the wheel centers diameter. Might have some new caps to sell you for a good price if you are in need. Have some left over from a previous project that never got installed.

If you need a pic of the lug and heavy washer set up let me know as I have them on mine.

So what do you all think about the 14x7 size? Worth trying or should I find a monster truck up on blocks and come to the rescue?
 
I was hesitant to read this thread as I recently went with 40-year-old alloy wheels on the TR4 and didn't want to hear I shoudldn't have -- but appears I'm still okay (they're not mag and no cracks, etc).

Anyway, on the subject of center caps, I had no success finding any. So many modern ones snap in from the front and rely on some sort of lip in the center hole. The kind that push thru from the back were plentiful enough but sized for 4x4s and too big for mine.

Rather order something without knowing for sure if it would work I made my own from a set of flexible plastic cups from Wally-Mart. Goofy, yes, but they got the job done:

Those rear hubs on the TR stick out quite a bit so the caps ahd to be pretty deep. Those are original TR3/4 nave plates added to the 'bottom' of the drinking cup. Lug nuts, BTW, as from McGard as suggested above.
 
Geo - noticable differnce in how she drives now?

Guys - for a 14x7 is there a tire size that you'd suggest? Still worried they are a bit too wide of a rim for anything other than racing.
 
I was able to buy a set of chrome plated plastic caps
at a local parts store.I might still have them somewhere.
