History Channel. "Unsung heroes: Camera Martyrs of Viet Nam"

Larry Burroughs. THERE was a mench. And he lived.

It is a story of the independent press photogs. No mention of the guys who were ~IN~ the military.

Been part of an argument that there were NO "photojournalists" as part of the military. I beg to differ but the point is moot, apparently.

It ain't that I take exception so much, but that there are plenty of us who were there and DID the same job with nearly no recognition.

Look up the name Jimmy Alley. A "co-worker".

His name is is carved in black granite. Along with too many others who did their jobs.

...Goin' fer some Buffett therapy now...

Lou Reda.... no wonder.

I though he died somewhere over there?....helo crash.

I didn't know the military had photographers.

I would believe that would annoy me.

...to be getting shot at and there is this guy taking my picture.

Now, that being said, I just watched someting on PBS about our guys over there now and was glad to see it. Folks should and gotta know what it's really like. I don't think it was a military cameraman though.

My thoughts are if every avalible man is shootong something other than a Nikon maybe more of our guys would come home.

......and by that I don't mean a Pentax or Cannon...well actually a cannon might not be a bad idea.

BUT, I have absolutly no right to say anything on the matter seein' I aint earned it....

I kinda avoid anything on TV about "my" history, Vietnam in the late 60's etc. I always end up yelling at the tv calling somebody something, usually because they got it wrong, weren't there or if they were, stoned. I don't like the history I know and lived revised for a modern audience. I am going out to the shop, smoking a cigar, drinking my cheap cab and watching Food TV.

Bubba, I can't say: <chop>

I just gotta say ya ain't got no idea.

One of the reasons we have a lot of pictorial history of the hardships and devastation of war is because of military photographers. I'm not taking anything away from civilian photogs, it's just that these unsung heroes, who put their lives on the line, live in the mud and mire as everyone else, some never coming back and who's past messages gives us a better insight on why war should be prevented at all costs, should never be forgotten! Remember, most of them didn't even have a weapon to protect them selves! Talk about being in "Harms Way". Hope I'm not overstepping my bounds Basil, as I could go on and on. I just had to say that. By: "And he lived." I meant he had a life, one of purpose.

And I would have to totally agree. All I know is what I see on TV and what guys like you tell me. This is why I ask questions.

Thanks Paul, that's what I was looking for.

Guys, I know this is a VERY sensitive subject for ANYONE who has served there. I have nothing but the UTMOST respect for ANY veteran, but ESPECIALLY Vietnam vets. Believe me when I tell you that you haven't any idea how big that soft spot for you guys is. It would appear that I have once again been taken the wrong way. I trust and respect several folks here, thus I "speak" in the same manner I would use with a close friend here. It's actually a complimnet.

I mean no disrespect whatsoever in anything I say here.

I've never posted my last name here and never will. One thing I can tell you it aint Fonda!

Well said, Paul.

Whenever we see a photo of our kids in a tight situation, ask: <span style="font-style: italic">Who</span> was there to make the images?

Herm Kokojan, Eddie McCrossan, Jimmy Alley... all gone now. Friends of mine. Phlyin' photogs of the USAF.

No, this is why I live in Montana. Well this and the fact I never completed my education as did my four brothers, none of whom live here.

My apologies, Billy. I leapt to an interpretation, just not the appropriate one. We may have to have a real conversation sometime... probably need an interpreter tho.

I often say the only exersize I get is jumping to conclutions. Believe me, no one understands more that me. it's no problem at all. No need to aplogies. Given the subject, all is understood perfectly.

The only thing I ask of you guys is remember, I'm a friend. If something I say offends you then you took it wrong. I would never be disrespectful to anyone here.

I know, I know, I may be a bit blunt and it comes out wrong. The fact that I am blunt is a compliment. You coddle strangers but tell it like it is to a friend. Anyone remember someone else who was like that??????

(Not that I would ever compare, just sayin')
