So I drove my first 948 Bugeye......

Well this car is, I think, 3069. I chatted with him today, car needs finish work and things corrected like the correct starter pull, correct speedo, mostly dash stuff actually. 11,500 for it is what we agreed on. Rotisserie job, color was not sprayed in boot or under car so its primer, floor pans replaced, nice bonnet, clean. Some okie stuff on the interior. May go for it Monday

Went to go buy it today and dug deeper. The owner revealed some more VIN tag switching stuff that I seem to run into. 1958 tags, titled as 1959, 1960 shell. Whats with all these sketchy cars out there?? Needless to say I passed.

You've certainly managed to find some "interesting" cases out there. Probably a good idea to walk away, there are plenty of Bugeyes out there without VIN issues.
 
I prefer your 1962 with the aluminum surrounds and without the bulbous trim at the bottom of the dash as the 64 has. Maybe that can be changed??

The trim on the later dash can be removed and the holes filled when recovering the dash. All the other cockpit trim interchanges with the BE except the piece around the back. The MKII 1098 trim can be stripped of the vinyl and polished. It just has a more rounded shape and no exposed screw heads.

As long as all the hidden numbers are changed out, nobody can prove anything wrong, why not buy it?
Odd that it's a rotisserie job and no paint in places a rotisserie would allow easy access to....
 
The yellow Bugeye may still be a good bet- if it doesn't have VIN issues. Pick up a 1275, or buy a Midget with that engine and upgrade to disc brakes etc. , later. I'm not certain the air cleaners are good for the engine and still suspect the lack of power has something to with tuning.
On a separate note, I'm still trying to check out the nearby Bugeye for you. The seller keeps trying to sell me a 98 Jag roadster I don't want and would make a nice package deal for all 4 Bugeye's! If he take 15k for, I would go for it but he wants 18k for his "show car".....
