Snow tires all year?

Gotta get tires for ol' Terc's truck,. He had mud grips on the back and now I know why. Can't find all terrains at a decent price. I'm thinking about snow tires. How practical is that? Only ice we have down here comes w/ tea in a dixie cup.

(usually served w/ cookies by Tercy's bride of 65 years :wink: )

Any suggestions?
 
They'll wear a bit faster and your grip on dry pavement is a bit reduced, but no other reason not to if they're cheap enough.
 
Drew's on the ball. The compound that snows are made of is softer than all season tires so they stay pliable in lower temps. that means they tend to wear faster in the summer. Due to $$ shortages I ran snows all this summer on the back of the BMW. I can attest to them having lousy grip in anything but snow. especially in the rain. I can shake that rear end loose at the drop of a hat.
