Today was supposed to be my 1st day back to work after Christmas break...guess what...SNOW DAY!!!! I love being a teacher! :banana:
 
Snow days are good things (though as a year round school employee I still am expected to go in). The real bummer is that we're so used to snow up here that it takes a massive storm to shut us down. I've worked for the district almost 7 years now and we've had 1 snow day in that time -- lots of snow, we just have to come in.

I was in Huntsville a few years ago on business and it snowed a little. I've had dandruff worse than this amount of snow but it was enough to shut half the city down and close the schools.

Same here. The deal is it's so rare, they give everyone the day off to enjoy it cause it might not happen again for 15-20 years.

Believe it or not...that's about what it was here! LOL! temperatures are cold, but streets were clear by noon. Old son drove in from Fayetteville and yes, we will have to make this one up on June 2, but...it was nice to have a "bonus day" of Christmas vacation--I finished hanging the cabinets and trimming out the laundry/guest bathroom that was remodeled almost 2 years ago after the tornado.

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho it's off to work I go..tomorrow.
 
Snow days are unheard of here in Alberta, we're just supposed to deal with bad winter days and somehow get to work anyway...

Yeah, but around here Bubba gets in his 4-wheel drive truck & drives like he always does (15mph over the speed limit) & there's 2 pretty tall mountains (for around here) you have to go over to get into Huntsville from the east, & Bubba doesn't even slow down going up so he'll be out of contro9l even on a little sprinkling of snow on the way down!

'specially th' bit about th' 15 OTL... physics ain't a strong suit where hard freeze occurs only once a decade or so.

Just watched a show last night about a small town in Siberia. They won't call a snow day unless it is -61°. The classrooms are heated to 53°.
 
At 53°F my hands would still be useless. It's about that here, just now and I look like Nanook if I venture outdoors.
 
WE have one today....it's been snowing since before dawn.....Jerri had me get out & go to Lowe's & get a bird feeder & some bird seeds....she said all her Cardinals were sitting under leaves on as Magnolia tree & had nothing to eat....so, I've been up on a ladder - in the snow - hanging a feeder!
 
Jeez Tony, how's the depth perception with your eye? I'da put the feeder somewhere I coulda reached from the ground.
 
I can get to it from the ground...just had to attach it to a tree limb that was higher.
 
When you might see -61 on a somewhat regular basis, or are at least used to negative temps, +53 temps are short pants weather. When we break +40 in the winter its back to the lightweight fleece jacket instead of the "winter" coat.

Nope just relative. Torture to me is 85+ degrees with Humidity over 80%. To you that is probably a nice day.
