Snow Day

I work at a school district here in Park City, Utah -- and for the first time in my 5-year tenure we've called a snow day! Takes quite a bit of snow to stop things here (10" or so at my place, and I'm about 1000' below Park City so they got hammered -- estimates last night were 12" - 24"). Normally we district workers still have to come in, but the Superintendent canceled work for all of us. Fun!

Now back to shoveling... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Our local schools closes if we get about 2" to 4" of snow here.

My college sometimes stays open in blizzard-like conditions while closing with moderate rain...hard to figure out sometimes.

Well now I know who to blame Drew! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

We're supposed to get 6 to 10 inches starting tomorrow night into Friday. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I keep telling myself "two more months of winter ... two more months of winter ..."

It hasn't been working. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I think the snow pile in our front yard (8' or so, from the plows) will be with us until June. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

We've got storms forecast every 3 days or so for the next little while. After a dry summer, all the water is nice. But I'm still ready for the warmth to come back!

only way you get a snow day up here is if the interstate is closed and the roads are only usable by people with good 4x4's. If its really really cold the schools may open a few hours later than normal. The university on the other hand wont shut down for anything less than a natural disaster. It's only shut down twice during my stay up here. Once very early in the fall after a very early and heavy snowfall the other time after a bad ice storm that had all the trees on campus dropping branches left and right.

Hey Matt,

I have a solution to your problem!

Instead of saying or "Thinking" two more months of winter;

Try this idea; "7 MORE WEEKS TILL SPRING"!!

Works for me!

"THINK SPRING",

Russ

And Saturday we get that oversized rodent's prognostication. Hope fer an overcast Punxsutawney.

Jeff:

Don't waste a vacation day in February ... take two hours to get to work.

Save your vacation for when its 70 degrees out!

Matt

I just got TWO snow days here in the supposedly sunny hot Middle East. Yep Jerusalem got enough snow and cold to shut just about everything down. Not really that much snow, only about 6" or so, but considering that no one is really prepared for this weather it can make quite a mess.

It's just started here, expect it your way in abut 6 hours....

It's 73 here and I have the A/C on because my hay-fever kicked in.

Florida serious sucks.

I saw that on the news!!! I am originally from Cyprus (one of your neighbors) and have not received the news from them but they probably got it too! You guys over ther had some snow a couple of years ago too didn't you!!

In Jerusalem we actually get snow almost every year, but normally it goes away almost as soon as it hits the ground. this is the first time maybe in a decade that we got snow two days in a row, and it actually stuck around (we still have a bunch of it). Having grown up in Michigan, the 9" or so that we got just barely registers as snow but still without even the very basic equipment needed even a small amount makes a big mess.

We got about 10" here beginning yesterday about 3pm...and it's still snowing...wih 2" to 3" expected today. I don't mind the accumulation...I HATE the blowing and drifting.

Wake-up time here. 50/50 sleet rain mix. Not a lot of snow, but it's gonna be nasty as the day goes on.
I expect we'll have a lot of cancellations at work today. And the mechanics who can make it in thismorning will be scrubbin floors, or staring at the walls.

Rick.
It just finished with officially 11" here.
I had to scrape the car with the shovel. Oh well, off to work I guess.....

Looks like about 4" here so far, with another 7" forecast. You could have kept some more of it, Barry!
At least I made a good choice with the vacation day.
