Snappy carpets

Hey, y'all! Have problem I need some help with.
I'm planning on getting new carpets for Nigel come spring; original style, not the glue-down stuff. As leaky as he is, I'd like to be able to pull the carpets and air 'em out every once in awhile. Currently, there's layers and layers of dried crusty goop under the carpeting. So much so, the snaps on the body are completely covered, if they're even there at all. If anyone with intact snaps can post a couple of pictures of their locations, it'll help my excavation process. It'd be better than scraping the entire darn thing hoping to uncover one.

Thanks!

Bill tomorrow I should be able to snap a picture of the holes if that would help

Bill, here is the picture with the locations

https://tinyurl.com/79ot74

There are 14 snaps total - 5 in each wheel well and 2 on either side of the transmission hump.

The wheel well snaps are identically located on either side.

The two closest to the seat are two inches from the sides and two inches out from the square cross brace.

The middle one is in the middle from side to side and 2 inches in front of the crease where the floorboard angles up

The top two are an inch above the cross seam and 2 inches in from the sides

The tranny hump ones are

Front: 2 1/2 inches up and 2 inches back from the firewall (where it meets the hump)

rear: 2 1/4 inches up and 10 inches back from the square cross brace.

hope this all makes sense

Cheers, JP! Absolutely brilliant--that's exactly what I needed. I thousand thanks upon you and your'n.

Bill, I don't want to hijack your thread, but can you tell me more about the carpets?

I thought they were all glued down, is this not the case? On my '74 I should have carpets that are snapped down? I'm pretty sure mine are glued in, so would that indicated my carpets are not original?

They should have snaps. my old carpets have the snaps but they are mounted on the bottom of the carpet - that is to say no domes. I've never seen them for sale and my replacement carpet didn't have it. not sure how they attach. I will likely use velcro but I would be interested if anyone knows where to get real ones or how to remove/ reattach old ones

The ones that came with my carpet kit from Moss can not be seen. There is a strange thin ring from the top that the carpet pile hides.

I seem to recall that VB does sell some sets with snaps.

was just looking at the Moss website and turns out they sell snaps (226-338) for $1.90 each

Prongs push through from the top side of the carpet and the prongs are then bent over to hold the actual snap part on the bottom of the carpet. Note: prongs are very sharp. You can not see the prong part after it is installed, it is hidden by the nap of the carpet.

cool - thanks Jack - think they might be available at an auto interior place?

Look on page 74 of the Moss Cat. item number 11 for 1.90 each.
