Snapping sounds on take off.

The Spitfire had what I describe as a snapping sound on moving form a dead stop- someitmes when shifting. I found the flange bolts from axle and differential were loose. Tightend those and it was not as consistant as previous. After the weekend trip to Flagstaff, it was a back- again not consistant. I retorqued the road wheels- about a quarter to half turn. I decided to check all the reat suspension bolts. The differential left side carrier to the frame was loose. I cant be sure which it is, just so the noise stops. I'm thinking it could be u-joints, but those have been replaced about three years ago.
Still, Im open to suggestions
By the way we drove the British Europeab Auto Tour- also know as the BEAT last weekend. Twenty-fie Triumphs were registered. Great weather- a bit cool Sunday morning in Flagstaff but the car ran realy well- even with the noise.

When was the last time that you lubed the u-joints?
