Whats usually the cause of popping when under accelerating? I have a 73' B, and I really havent had it out on the road this yr. because of interior resteration. But when I do get it out, it seems to crackle and pop from both the Carbs and tailpipe under acceleration.

P.S. Could it be a dirty Fuel Filter, wrong fuel to air mixture. I did just put the air filters on without using the filter assembly a week ago. It ran fine the first time I had it out with new air filters on, but last night it just sounded horrible. Thanks
 
Poor quality (aged over a month or two) fuel, timing off a bit?
 
I had about a half a tank for the winter, then I just topped it off last week. I use high octane like always. I will check the filter and timing...

Oh that's what them is - thought they was the pancake filters for them SU's :jester:
 
Sorry I didnt get back to you, but it must have been the gas. I replaced the fuel filter, ran it for awhile to get through the old gas and it seems to be running like a top.

P.S. I figured I would start with the easy cheap remedies, and go from there. Thanks for all the suggestions.
 
I read an article in Moss Motors about gas and the MG. The MG has a open system which means they vent into the air where all newer car have closed systems where the tanks vent to the engine to be burned. So with an open system gasoline will draw moisture from the air. But with the wonderful idea of mixing alcohol with gasoline the gasohol will now draw 5 time more moisture into the tanks that pure gasoline. Good for the environment, bad for our B's or any other older vehicle. Another thing to watch for is rust in the tank. Replaced mine after I bought it and I plan my fuel usage. If I know I'll be down for a while she'll be in the garage with a full tank and/or fuel stabilizer or I'll drain the tank. A BIG PAIN but this is the time we live in.

"Stabil" is about the ONLY ameliorator in old fuel that comes close to making it burnable.
