Snake bit or what??

Probably should have added this to other thread "What ever can happen will"

Well I did manage to put paint on the beast for the third time Saturday. Thought things were going along quiet well.

Couple of weeks ago I went by to check on the progress of the seats, top door rails, and cockpit surround being recovered. Said he had material and would start the next day. I got word Sunday the he had a stroke and is now in a nursing home and can not speak. He had lived alone and did work out of his house. Received word that some of his family has been doing some house cleaning for him. Contacted his son yesterday and will make an appointment to check on seats and other pieces. Really hard knowing that he is laid up like this. One never knows how much time we have.
Well anyway maybe some of it is still there.
Tom

Remind me to NEVER stand anywhere near you in a thunderstorm, Tom!!

Geez!

Well don't panic yet tom, seems I have seen lots of seats not long ago.

Doc & Jack,
Still no word on the seats.
There's more. I started putting things back together and after installing the heater I could not locate where the air control cable hooks up. Got the cable for the water valve OK but not the other.Looks like there should be a cople of elbows and two short tubes that I can not find that the defrost hoses hook to. Can't find them and don't remember removing them.
Another thing is my dash. Thought I was going to replace with a new one. Turns out that the new ones are just a covering, have to use old metal from old dash. Well I left the dash it in a place where some of it got wet. Now after removing the vinyl I find that lower part of the old dash has rusted away. Sometimes I just feel stupid. I'm going to know this beast real well by the time it is finished.
Still having Fun,
Tom

Are we havin' fun yet? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I may still have the extra dash from the '73 B that I restored, if you're interested. Will check this evening. My sister lives near you, and I'm planning a trip down the first week of December. Will let you know.

Mickey

Mickey,
Been having fun. This is too much trouble to be taking it serious.
Dash: Yes I would be interested. Need something else that I can mess up. Question: What did you do for a dash in the one you restored?
Where does your sister live?
You might not want to get too close. Some of this might rub off on you. Not everyone takes trouble as well as I do.
Thanks,
Tom

A glimmer of hope.

Tom, the control cable for the "diverter flap" is fed thru the hole just above and to the right of the defroster tube plate.

Bad news is: you gotta lie down on yet back inna passenger footwell and thread it thru a "pinch-bolt" cable end with bent-tip needle nose pliers and patience, thru the right side heater duct... I use forceps and tongue English...

Good news seems to be: ya won't have to remove the seat to do it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Trouble is my business! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My sister lives in Century - Mom's in an assisted living center in P'cola.

And I bought a dash from eBay - the extra that (I think) I have will need a new cover, but the metal is still good. I'll let you know in a couple hours.

But Doc, Where does it connect? In the cockpit or under the hood? I don't see any heater duct. Do I need to take the heater back out? Must have taken this off after nearly running out of beer.

Mickey,
Just looked up what your business is. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif Please bring some water. I will shoot the demons as they are leaving.
Thanks,
Tom

The easest way to throw a curve in the English language is to hook up the heater flap cable after the heater is installed. Right seat out, lay on your back, twist your neck as far as it will go to the right, hook your left arm up under the dash, with a flashlight in your mouth and make sure no one else is around. The reason for holding the flashlight in your mouth is not only so you can see in the hole, it's also to muffle the words that have a way of being emitted while this little project is being accomplished. Eventually you will compleat your mission./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Eventually, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Hopefully! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gifPJ

RUH-ROH!

There's s'posed to be a "flapper" duct at the bottom of the heater box. Cable controlled from the bottom "interior/windscreen" knob (or right-side knob in your case). Short cable. Hayne's page 199 item 5, Bentley "Section R" pg. 338, Moss pg. 97 (poor illustration). VB has no illustration.

Doc,
As per the Moss page 97 I don't seem to have item #'s 44 and 46. Flapper duct?? I'll look again.

Paul,
I look forward to taking another look at this thing again tonight.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, All joking aside, the best way to hook up the cable is when the heater is out. I know that this is hind site if you already have it in the car. This is a little tidbit that everyone should know when thier redoing a heater, but most of us don't know that and learn the hard way. I did and so have a lot of others. Your not alone. It would be nice if it was easy to remove the heater and start over, but of course, that's not the case. Just have patience, You'll get it.PJ

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Only if you're a crack shot!

Just looked at the dash, and it's a bit rusty along the bottom and sides. There's still plenty of metal, but it ain't pretty - might "clean up" and be usable. It's yours if you want it, and I'll be glad to bring it, if you'd like to wait that long.

Mickey

Mickey,
Yes if you are coming this way and it is not rusted through any place then I could use it. I probably will not need it before December by the way things have been going.
Turns out that I did not get a chance to track down the heater air flow connection. Got side tracked sanding and buffing paint to rid it of bugs and trash. Got plenty to do so can wait on dash.
Thanks,
Tom

'K - I'll be in touch.
