I can't believe he's gone. We listened to the Ali-Frazier fights on the radio, hard to imagine a better fight.

From a newpaper article today:

Ali wrote an autobiography and invited Frazier to the publisher's book party. Would Frazier, his old nemesis, show up? He did:

For years, Ali had insulted Frazier, calling him a “gorilla” and “stupid.” Frazier seethed; he once grappled with Ali briefly — and seriously — in a television studio before they were separated. But the night of the book party, he greeted Ali with a smile and “Hiya, champ” — the ultimate compliment from one boxer to another. Class.

Frazier was a South Carolina sharecropper's son, with 12 siblings. They were dirt poor. Frazier overcame poverty to win Olympic Gold and the World Heavyweight title, becoming a multimillionaire in the process. A true success story.

And, he was possibly the toughest athlete on the planet.

RIP, Joe.

Definitely the golden age. Still hear Howard Cosell at ringside.
