Smoke escaped from my wires!

I spent the afternoon Sunday getting my heater unit out (without removing the dash, (tricky) since I let all the smoke out of the heater motor wiring a couple weeks ago.
I opened up the heater box and sure nuff I assembled the motor in the heater box in the wrong orientation 6 months ago and the big resistor thingie grounded out against the casing creating a dead short. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Easily fixed by turning the motor in the casing and new wire.
Now I've just got to put it all back in the 6 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Graham,
Don't you hate it when you do things like that. I am pretty sure that is the other purpose of the ashtray hole, to get to that top left bolt. I collected new parts for my heater for a year before I attempted a rebuild. No new fan blades are available. I finally found one on the web, NOS, and gleefully jambed it on the shaft of my new motor. Of course the Bakelite fan split! Thank goodness for the web, there are tons of people out there that repair Bakelite radios, etc. Used that info to repair my new, almost ruined fan. Put it all together in Graham-like fashion and almost installed it that way. Thank goodness I caught myself. Check, recheck and check again when dealing with these jewels. Sorry you have to re-redo. Been there, done that. Good luck.

Doesn't the smoke mean that it's an authentic Lucas part?

Just don't forget to reinstall the genuine Lucas smoke (no aftermarket smoke will work), or you'll be doing it all over again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gifI'm curious, how do you get the smoke in the wires in the first place? And what kinda smoke is it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Thanks for the picture Banjo...I'd neglected to get a copy of it when I saw it on EBay.

Frank...it's genuine Lucas smoke. You know, nobody can blow insulation smoke like Lucas! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

I checked at the local NAPA autoparts store for new smoke.
They had some cheap Taiwanese manufactured smoke refill kits but when I looked carefully I noticed that the specific gravity was a lot less than the Lucas OEM smoke so I opted for the real thing.
That low SG smoke just wouldn't have roiled out of there with the same choking consistency as the real thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

It was probably METRIC smoke as well

Doesn't it strip it out if you insert metric smoke into an SAE harness? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

That, of course, will depend entirly upon the diameter of injector as well as the drive mechanism on the foo-foo valve that you use to install this cheap, after market material. This NOT the case when installing genuine "Lucas # 530433 Harness Smoke"

I believe the Injector valve for the genuine Lucas smoke recharge kit (Churchill tool #LU433-56b) is Whitworth thread.
