Before the TR gets banished from the attached garage due to the gas smells, I wonder if anyone could help me clean her up?

I rebuilt the carbs last winter, however they still get wet with gas right around the choke boxes. Any suggestions? Is there supposed to be a gasket under the choke? Its not in the manuals I looked through.

Is it unreasonable to think that carbs should stay dry and clean?
 
I find that good carb seals still leak when the float is keeping too much fuel in the bowl. I suggest you readjust the floats to lower the amount of fuel in the bowls.
 
And keep in mind that all old cars smell horrible after they've been run.

My suggestion is to open windows in your garage (if you have them) or leave the garage door open and place a small fan blowing away from any heater/vent located in there, which will keep fuel vapor smells from entering the house.

My cars stink, and none of the carbs leak.

[/ QUOTE ]I believe there is a paper gasket in the rebuild kit that goes between the halves of each starter box at their edge. Your conditions are definately abnormal (and you garage shouldn't reek of gas fumes).

That reminds me of the time this summer my 5 year old daughter and I retuned from a drive. When we came inside she went over and hugged her mother who frowned and said, "Eeew, you smell like Triumph." My daughter looked at me and started to pout, until I explained to her that that was a compliment! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
