Smartphone GPS on car's infotainment screen?

Do you have the Android Auto app on your phone?

Do you have the Android Auto app on your phone?

Sure can't find one. I assume it would be in "other apps" on the phone's menu page? If not, where would I find it?

Try google play

I think I discovered another rabbit hole.

- Use phone browser (Opera) to go to Google Play site.
- Search "apps"
- Search "android auto"
- Search "androidauto"
- All three searches result in long list of "early access movies"

harumph

Hi Tom,
Go to the play store from your phone, not a web browser. On your phones home screen, swipe upwards. That should bring up a bunch of icons of what is installed on the phone.
Click on play store, then search for "Android Auto".

Another thing to try is "Smart View" At the home screen swipe down from the top twice. Once to get into the settings like bluetooth and sound, second swipe expands for other settings. Look for "Smart View" swipe right to left to get to it. Clicking that will have the phone search for nearby devices and it will take several seconds to do. Basically, it mirrors what is on the phones screen. I use that for zoom meetings where I cast the screen onto my TV. I don't know if you can interact with the phone through the car's screen this way.

Thanks gents. Here are the apps on my LG phone:

Buy Games
Nimbuzz
Opera Mini 7
Tetris Demo
Bejeweled Demo

Looks like I need a new phone, as my current one can't be upgraded. I even chose "Buy Games" but got the message "Buy Games" is no longer supported. The plot thickens!

This is interesting. Both my antique flip phone and my wife's smartphone are hooked up to the Subaru screen with Bluetooth. We can talk hands free once we switch to the active phone. Are you saying we can get things like WAYZ on our screen?

I'm guessing your phone is from 2012 or so. If it could be upgraded, the upgrade would have been pushed to the phone by your carrier.

That's what I figured; it's a lifesaver during power outages or emergencies, but I don't use it otherwise. As I don't travel much anymore, I'm weighing the choices here: new phone and service, ca. $50/month. Keep current phone at $10/month. Buy window mount Garmin, $100.

Thanks.
