Slotted Nut

You might use a piece of flat metal stock about the width of the nut and maybe 6 inches long. Bend a short tab 90 degrees on one end. Then cut away the part of the tab that would not be needed. It would essentially be a homemade spanner wrench.
 
I made one years ago out of s bit of 16ga steel. A Rectangle about 3" x 1.25". Out of one end I cut a rectangle just wide & long enough to accommodate the switch, so I had a flat U-shaped tool. Worked great!
 
Master Mechanic Bugeye58 has made me a tool to try, which he's sending along for trials! Another reason why BCF is *the* forum of choice for all LBC fans.

I have only needed to fashion a wrench to loosen a stubborn bezel nut. If you just want to tighten then that's much easier.

For tightening I use 1/2 of a wooden spring-type clothes pin rather than a screwdriver. The wood in those is somewhat tough and the end is just squared enough to catch in the slot of the "nut" and there is no way a slip will scratch anything.

A few light taps on the wood 'drift' with a small hammer is all it takes.

Nice tool Bugeye! Bet you could sell a few on eBay like that guy who makes the tool to fasten the inner and outer window seals.
 
Glad it worked for you, Julian. I took the length of the control shafts and switch toggles into consideration when I made it. I was a bit concerned about the ID, as I didn't have a switch handy to test it on.
No plans to go into production, though.
