Slicks + Rain = BAD

I'm off to Lime Rock in a few minutes. Camping overnight at the track.

Tomorrow, according to weather.com, there is a 90% chance of rain.

I'm taking the ~Twin Cam Escort~, which is running four Hoosier slicks. Ain't got no rain spares.
Oh well...at least it has a roof and wipers. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

he said.....

as he got loose and....(pick one)

1. backed into a wall
2. slid off the track into a wall
3. into a tire barrier
4. got lucky and just went round and round
5. went round and round after hammering the brakes and collected ____ cars. (insert number of cars here).

Nail good luck, hope it dries up.

I see a survey coming.

Been there, done that one. Actually, it can be fun. Going into a 90* left hander, steering full lock, slide, slide, slide, waiting and hoping for it to catch...............
I was halfway through a race that had been dry for the first 8 or 10 laps, when the sky opened up. In the rain on hot slicks is a real treat! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonod.gif
Good luck, Nial.

Nial,

You mean you don't want to practice your
ice racing skills?I'll bet Jim Clark could do it!

Ummm...gee, sorry to dissapoint you.

But none of the above.

Actually, I was in the same league as most of the other small bore cars. Slow and steady. Almost everyone behaved themselves in really dreadful conditions. For me, this gave me a useful shakedown for our upcoming 4-Hour Twilight event. I did spot a slight filler neck leak when the tank was full. And my recently modified motor mount has calmed down my wobbley shifter. And I think I'll dial in some more toe out.
And the video camera needs a better mount.
And my cheesey exhaust patch-up started to fray, so I'll take it apart and do a slightly less cheesy repair. Maybe.

The car's not great, but it's solid. And honestly, for a $300 car, I think it'll be fun. (the $300 is total investment not including labor and swapping off useless junk for stuff I needed)

Also, got to meet Scott briefly
(Scott: Hope for both of us, our next chat doesn't take place outside in the pouring rain /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif )

And ChrisS was there on Friday with his Spridget (but I missed him because I arrived late in the day).

Slicks. You don't need slicks to do #2 or #3 - this almost happened when I overcooked it out of the car park at JFK terminal 4 last night. The ESP nanny and switchable 4wd saved me well before the opposite lock I dialed in did anything. In fact I made it worse than it needed to be.

And this was a new car...

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif LMAO
I was in a hurry. Traffic had been backed up on the LIE, I was a wee bit late and it was wet, what can I say.

Back to car control school for me...

By the way, we had two significant accidents (with no injuries, thank goodness).

~THIS ONE~ and one other Miata that gently rolled over onto the tires after it hit the tirewall on the Downhill. Both single-car accidents and both were on full-tread Toyo RA-1s (excellent tires...I have 'em on the Spridget).
Despite these two incidents, the really impressive thing for this weekend is how good Miatas are in the wet...even better than the fwd cars, methinks.

Gee, Nial, wrinkled Miasmas. How rare can that be? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
And I think my Sprite will outhandle the Miatas in the rain.

Glad this was the last race of the season...

I need a rest.
Did 8 weekends this year racing (+10 weekends flagging)

But, I'm the only one of the 3 of us who didn't take a balled up car home yesterday.

Cpt Sparkles got creamed by a Miata who was attempting a rather optimistic pass at the kink (Nelson Ledges last week)
That took all week to make right.

We put his car back together and he pounded a tree in the carousel on Saturday....More work.

Then on Sunday he goes off at 3 and REALLY launches some tires.

AJ went straight at 1 about 1 1/2 hrs. into the enduro and ended up going off at about 100mph. backward.
So he has some work to do.

All I got were a couple of love taps this weekend.
(anything you can cover with standard width duct tape doesn't count)

Wish I took pictures...But I was busy with wrenching and pounding out dents.
