Recently rebuilt the MC on my 61 AH Sprite, brake side working but clutch is not; believe the problem is not the MC but the slave cylinder(sc). The problem is that when I pedal down on the clutch there is no resistance (did bleed clutch, fluid goes to clutch but pushrod does not move??)

Would someone confirm for me where the hydralic line screws into the sc, that is, at very end of sc or the other port located midway (logic would seem to think that the hydralic line goes in at the end but I've been told otherwise)?

Also, what role does the "spring" have inside the sc and how do you remove the spring for inspection, or how do you know that it needs replacement? Much appreciated...Irish /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
 
i think if the slave cyl blows, you'll leak fluid into the bell housing, whereas the MC would just have an internal leak
 
The pipe goes straight into the slave. The bleeder nipple is more towards the top.
If the slave is leaking, pop off the outer dust cover, fluid will dribble out. No fluid, no leak.
Now, when you rebuilt the master, did you mix up the push rods? Did you keep the brake check vavle in the brake bore of the master? (that odd little rubber piece found only in the brake bore)
The slave spring is just a helper, and more so to get the piston out for rebuilding purposes.
If the slave rod is not moving, you may still have air in the line. Try power bleeding with some compressed air, no more than 20 psi. Find a bottle cap that screws onto the master, drill a 1/4" hole in it and use a rubber tipped blow tip. You can also fashion something and use a bicycle pump or air from your spare tire.
Or try adjusting the master pushrod, be carefull as you can make the rod too long and it will block the return hole causing the clutch to slip and/or not fully engage.

Frank, I'll try the pipe straight into the slave since the bleeder nipple is more towards the top; no previous leaking at the pipe fitting or nipple. Think I need to just bleed the system better like you suggested.
Believe I did keep the brake check valve in the brake bore of the master(will eventually find out!)
You mentioned that the slave spring is to get the piston out for rebuilding. The piston in my slave slides right out after removing the circlip and turning slave upside down and letting gravity drop it out. But there is no visable spring action; all I see in the slave cylinder at the bottom is a black rubber looking thing and I assume the spring is under that.In other words, should the piston kind of pop out after circlip is removed due to the spring action?? Thanks for your reply...irish
