A small, $20k (including incentives - assuming no changes there) truck with a 150 mile range?

Not bad, methinks, for Joe Suburb looking to get to work, pick up mulch for the yard, etc.

It is not a good road-trip / towing vehicle, nor is the range good for many contractors. Kei trucks are probably more practical, given range and fast refueling for contractors working in congested areas or looking for a small truck.

I have long been a fan of small trucks (1980s Ford Rangers and Toyotas). I think the Slate looks cool - it reminds me of an original Bronco.

I would not buy it. I do not need another vehicle, nor have the space. But I like it and hope it succeeds.
 
I think this is on the right track. An affordable no-frills EV thats more of a basic vehicle instead of cramming every techno-gadget under the sun into the thing. The range is a little bit short for me (I have a 70 mile round-trip to work every day assuming no other stops/detours) and I expect at night/AC on/etc cuts down that stated 150 mile range, but if there were charging stations available at/near work it could be doable.
 
Interesting truck. Never thought I would see Jeff Bezos and 'less is enough' in the same sentence though. :LOL:

As an aside in the midst of all this tariff stuff (not discussing that, Boss - don't worry) I have read a number of articles on how far behind China we are in EV technology and battery development.

You are right. I thought the Nissan Leaf could be in the category of “basic EV”. Supposedly it starts at 30k, but it does not qualify for incentives as the final point of assembly is not USA. Moreover, looking at local inventory on the Nissan website, the cheapest example is 38k. Yow!

I think it is a neat concept. It would absolutely not be practical where I live, because the range is no where near what most people here need. This concept with a series hybrid powertrain would definitely interest me to some degree, though I don't know if I would actually buy one. That is mostly because I have enough pick-ups and I don't trust modern cars with all their computers and tracking stuff.
