I was thinking the same thing when I viewed pic #1... I can only imagine him thinking "I'm going to die"

Why is the LZ on an active runway?
 
notice the guy in the background in the white shirt completely oblivious to what is going on

I'm more curious as to what the pilot thought when he looked up on takeoff and there was a sky diver coming down right in front of him.

hmmm - skydiving zones are marked on sectionals. Shouldn't you check the area BEFOE you land there?

(anyway, good on him for opening the aircraft's door)
