Skidding Car Ramps

I own a pair of all steel drive-on car ramps that could lift a car (Healey 3000) about 10 to 12 inches off the garage floor.

The problem is that the ramps skid forward when making any attempt to drive on to them. Appearantly the garage floor is just too smooth to offer any resistance for the ramps. A non-skid pad, generally used for area rugs etc., was placed under the ramps but they just got chewed up. A rug remnant and shop towel were also chewed up.

I've looked into a $40 pair of Rino ramps, they're made of plastic and probably wouldn't skid, but they don't appear to have the same lift.

Any suggestions or opinions that you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Skid'in GONZO
 
Get a couple wooden wedges and slip them under the rear of the ramps. That should do the trick. That or back up onto them but that won't help if it's the front you need to lift!
 
I have also used old floor mats (rubber) under them. Also have placed them with a pair of 2x4s running from the rear end of the ramps to the wall.

I now use the Rhinos -- light, cheap, less prone to skid, but yes, the lift is not as high.
 
Try gluing a longish piece of carpet remnant to the top of the front edge of the ramp so that you drive onto its flat part first, and that then holds the ramp when the car starts pushing against the ramp itself. If the cars on the carpet first it will hold the ramp, and if the remnant is glued on top of the ramp it won't get cut up. Just puting the remnant under the ramp does little to hold it against the push of the car. While puting it in front where the car drives on it first and then pushes against the ramp seems to do the trick. The glue may need replacing from time to time.
