The good news is that addition to the force you all felt Saturday evening was my wife's Spifire starting once again. This time she got to drive it on the road. Next we'll add the the doors, bonnet, windscreen, and other necessary parts. When driving she could shift from first to third gear but not second or fourth. Reverse was there as well. After some work grinding out the housing for the shift lever, the car has first, second, third, and reverse, but still no fourth. Becasue the transmission is still in the car I can't actually see what in going on the the gear box. I guess I'll have to get it out of the car. Oh well, that's what Monday holidays are for. Any ideas?

More good news. I spent Sunday afternoon grinding away the weld bead on the inside of the shifter tower, reassembled the tower correctly including the back up light switch and a small flat plate that bolts near the bottom of the driver's side of the shift tower. Everything works- four forward speeds and one reverse. As I shifted, at an easy pace through the gears, I didn't hear any strange sounds. I guess the next thing is to sort out the timing and carburetor stuff. Back firing through the carbs is not a good thing. T.T.
