single pole or double pole?

I'm going to replace my heater/blower switch for a 75 TR6, and since it has a 2 speed, center off setting, would I need a single pole, or a double pole toggle switch for the replacement?

Thanks Alec....I believe there are 2 or perhaps 3 wires that connect to the original switch. The fan would require a low/high with an off setting. I only mentioned the center off toggle because i had another car that had that kind of a blower switch configuration. The original switch isn't available anymore. Buying a used electrical switch over the net is too much of a crapshoot for me to mess with. NAPA has quite a few selections of toggle switches so I guess I'll have to take my original in to them to match. The original was a push/pull type switch.

I am not specifically familiar with the Triumph's wiring but it sounds like what you are talking about is a single pole, double throw, center off switch. Sometimes they are also called, SPDT on-off-on.

This is a common configuration for electronic switches and is typically used when a device has two inputs and you are selecting whether one input, the other or neither is connected to something.

Hey Steven,
As far as switch availability, I personally would put NAPA about third on my list when looking for electrical make-do switches. I have found that a marine electrical store to be an excellent first choice (of course, I live near the Gulf of Mexico with lots of oil field service companies in the area). Their quality is top drawer and many of the switches are made in England. Good stuff and oft fits Triumph bezels and switch plates. Next choice would be Radio Shack as they obviously specialize in electrical and have a better selection...

Addendum.
I wired some Cibie fog lights on my TR6 using these British made SPST internally lit rocker switches and they PERFECTLY sit where my seat belt warning light once resided. Their relays are also British and are super quality

There are not too many marine shops here. I've heard Radio Shack might be ok, and we do have one of them. Thanks for the suggestion Dr. Bill.

Hello Steve,
basically if you switch one line that is single pole, two lines two pole, three etc.
Your switch is unusual in being centre off, but if you can't find an original switch you could think about using a side\headlight toggle switch as used by many cars, even Mini's if I'm not mistaken. That will however be an Off/slow speed/high speed rather than centre off.
