I just did a 6 to 12v swap on my '71 B.
I moved the ground strap over to the passenger side, removed the interconnecting battery cable (the one that goes between the battery boxes) and dropped in a 12v with top posts on the passenger side (battery size 26 or 26r will fit like a glove). I did no other mods and all seems to be just fine.
I actually stumbled across the following website that helped me tremendously over the last few days:
