Silver Shadow for daily driver? Y/N? Pros/Cons?

Re: Silver Shadow for daily driver? Y/N? Pros/Cons

I've a friend with a Bentley...first thing he did was replace all the brakes with a modern system...if you want, I can put you in touch with him.

How about an XJ6?

Not "Here" it isn't. Link gets "403'd".

BRR: Welcome to the forum! Rolls/Bentley ownership is NOT for the faint-of-heart (or faint-of-wallet, morelike). ~IF~ you are reasonably well mechanically inclined they are "ownable" but as stated above, the parts are pricey. Once they've been sorted they're reliable. The biggest problem I've ever come across has been the ~lack~ of maintenance and DPO unwillingness to have them repaired properly when something fails. I've seen some HORRIBLY botched cars in my 20+ years of fixing the lumps. Most of the time its the hydraulic system which has been compromised the worst. Everything from purposly blocked lines to coat hangers restricting the leveler travel. MISSING components, "make-do" repairs by obviously unskilled or unknowledgable "mechanics", stuff that should never be done to them. Rolls built cars to be heirlooms, to be passed down the same way as the carriges and estates. They still do. Parts for a 1910 transmission are obtainable from them today. It's only the nature of our "disposable" mind-set which has them being bought and sold as "used cars". They're designed and built to be multi-generational transport.

The later cars, with Bosch CIS, are great, BTW. Usually an example can be found for very little money compared to the original purchase price, too.

Would I own one? No. I'd not be able to keep her in the manner to which she *should* become accustomed. But I'll properly FIX 'em all day. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Ooops... I'll step down from th' soap-box now. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I am in total agreement with you about their mission. That is why I have been facinated with them since the age of twelve. Once aquirinq one of your dreams you begin, in this instance , to realize that there is a great deal more to the sophistication of a hand crafted marque than you could imagine. Perhaps that is as it should be. To those who undertake such tasks, may their efforts be rewarded.BRR
