Sill / Castle rails question

Hi folks - I'm looking at car that appears to have some problems with the Sill (but I'm not entirely sure - maybe the Castle Rail). Picture is attached.

How scared should I be? Can this be patched or am I really looking at a big job to cut and replace?

To patch this would be a DPO move. To do it right, you need to rip out the floor pans, outer sill, membrane, inner sill and castle rails (in that order) and reinstall new metal in the opposite order. It is a major undertaking to be sure, but it can be done (ask me how I know) If you are looking at this car as a potential purchase, pass on it. If it's already your car and you have a sentimental attachment to it, then fix it, but be warned that it's not a simple or cheap repair.

Dave's correct...were I buying that car, it would only be as a parts car....in Southern Calfornia you should be able to find a rustfree example.

The car in question is an MGC, which lowered my standards some, but I don't think I'm up for this sort of repair. I'd like to think I am, but that's not an honest assessment.

MGC's are rare & could be worth the cost of repairing...except the floors are different from MGB & not available - there are "torsion rods" on either side that connect the front suspension to the body - if there's rust where they connect, its like rust in a rear leaf spring hanger - except there's no repair panel so it has to be fabricated.....before I'd jump on it, I'd do a serious inspection.

Take it from me, you don't want to have to replace all of the above mentioned parts. I am doing mine right now, have about 3/4 of it done, but I left alot of blood, sweat and tears in the inner sill somewhere during the process.
Actually, I think I left some of my skin in there too. Anyways, spend the extra to get one that is either void of rust in that area, or come up with the mula' to get someone to do the C for ya...
I think I would keep looking if you have the money to do so. In my case, all I had was my blood, sweat, and tears to contribute.
