Do you remember me telling you about my trouble-free three years and 100,000 miles on the '93 Miata.... well, I left something out. Until you asked the "water in the car" question I had forgotten about the numerous times I had to have the windows adjusted on the Miata in an attempt to keep dry. The only times I ever used the warranty on the car (factory and 100K mile extended) was during numerous vain attempts to waterproof the interior. When I fitted the hardtop each fall, I had to make an appointment to have the windows alligned, as well as in the spring when the hardtop was removed from the car. The dealership replaced the top once, refitted the original twice, and replaced the rubber seals on the top frame at least twice. I think that you could assume that getting wet in a roadster is usually just part of the ownership experience. One thing I learned quickly... Never take a convertible through a high pressure car wash (at least without a stack of towels!). I don't know why this bothered me so much at the time... I had owned a TR3 and an MGA, both side-curtained roadsters. I guess I just expected perfection from the glass-windowed modern roadster. Looking back, I should have been pleased that I got damp on occasion. It just adds to the unique character of the cars we love. Getting the occasional drip on my shoulder or lap never bothered me in the MGA.
By the way, have you gotten a car yet... had a chance to drive a Miata? Let me know how the search is coming and if you have narrowed your list any. Oh, yes, you will get wet on occasion in a TR3, but if you fit the top properly and get a good set of curtains it won't be intolerable.
