Shroud for PH I BJ8

Hi John, I have never had to swap front shrouds. However, I think either the BT7 or the BN7 front shroud could be used on a phase 1 BJ8, any differences should be minor---Fwiw--Keoke

Although I don't have an answer, the Moss Cat lists different part numbers for BN7/BT7 and the BJ7/early BJ8. Both, however, are listed as NA.

I think there were 3 shroud configurations. The first was the flat windscreen model. The second was the curved windscreen with the single front lights. The third was the curved windscreen with the extra light.

Yes Shorn , I am aware of that. However, in spite of the different part numbers, which obviously were required. I know a Phase one BJ8 shroud can be fit on a Phase two BJ8 the minor differences being the front side light configuration. Consequently, I think the earlier ones may be fit on the Phase one BJ8 cars too.---Keoke-?

John -

No, the shrouds are not the same. There are several differences.

First and foremost the dash/scuttle area is totally different, and you will have to the back off the BJ8 shroud to mate with your BT7 shroud.

Secondly, MkI BT7 and MkII BT7 shrouds are different in the grill area - the MkII and MkIII grill holes are different and the part between the grill and bonnet are different - the metal has a different lateral curvature. A MkIII/MkII grill will not fit properly in a MkI shroud.

There are essentially four shroud variants used on 3000s:

Mk I BT7/BN7 shroud
MkII BT7/BN7/BJ7 shroud (revised grill profile)
MkIII BJ8 Early (revised dash/scuttle area)
MkIII BJ8 Late (revised turn signal layout)

Hope that helps!

Oh! come on 7777's. No body has said they are directly interchangeable. For that matter, a front shroud off of one Phase 2 BJ8 generally is not directly interchangeable to another Phase 2 car with out some "FITTING". Consequently, I think an earlier car's shroud can be "FIT" to an early Phase 1 BJ8 car. Similarly Fenders ain't the same between cars either but they can be FIT. Course now you need a good fitter to do the fittin.-----Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif
