The nice thing about the rotary is its size (and weight)...

Isn't a 13B heavier than a 1275?

I doubt it, pretty much all aluminum.

FWIW, I did some surfing and came up with 250# for a 1098cc, and 260# for a 13B. I'm certain there are variables like wet/dry and accessories.....

Turns out rotary engines use a cast iron rotor housing, and the rotors are pretty heavy. The earlier mazda transmissions were cast iron, too - but I'm guessing that changed by the time the 13B rolled out.

Rotaries are way cool. I'm looking forward to pictures!

Hehehehe!!! That's one HOT Veedub!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Sounded like it was turbo-charged. Ya think he was running pump gas?

Well, my wife's Beetle can't do that /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif but I bet it gets a lot better tire mileage!

It's a matter of miles per gallon vs. smiles per gallon!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Not to say a Spridget with a rotary could do that, (The Bug is 400Hp) but a rotary engine fits into the spridget and imho is a perfectly reasonable alternative engine. I would prefer (as a non-original replacement) the rotary to a V6, V8. There are however many nice, and imo preferable 4cyl engines that can produce good power, and fit in the spridget, though not with the original rear axle. Just look at the Formeister Alfa-Healey as an example. Bottom line, almost any engine swap is a LOT of work, but a lot of people do them... every day.

anyone interested in buying:
a 1275 w/ webber DGV carb, alternator, screw on oil filter
Ribcase transmission with new slave cylinder and shortened shift lever
new never installed heater shelf
pair of rear lever shocks and linkages
tail light lenses and housings
gauge set
25D Distributor

yup! Moving forward /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Its going to take some work
its going to be lots of fun though!

need to sell off some stuff though to help finance the swap... Id even consider parting out the engine and transmission if there was enough interest in the parts

why would I need tail lights if i dont have brakes? lol

fortunately I have quite a few spare parts that came with the car, I have sorted through, found the bits that I want to use and can sell the rest.

Exhaust Header
https://www.drooartz.com/index.php?page=39&showimage=picture&rowid=44

This is a spare header that came with the car...the 1275 in the car has what looks like an aftermarket header on it.

As for the gauges, I was pretty much planning on using a set of aftermarket gauges from the get go.

Stock 1275 exhaust header. 25 bucks on eBay/

And that would make $25.

anyone interested in a....

Richard (sportsdoc) isn't a heater shelf the same as a Battery shelf?
