Should have put the top up

Decided to ride to work with the top down this morning. We had that recent heat wave and it spoiled me. Well, I left out with the top down and didn't look at the temp. No, coat, just a t shirt. 49 degrees and a 14 mile, mostly highway drive. By the time I got to work my teeth were chattering, ears aching, It was everything I could do to turn the ignition key off and I could not talk to anyone correctly. My God that was cold. Typing this with one finger. It was much colder than my bike with a coat on and helmet. Hypothermia is not fun. Next time I won't be so lazy and will put the top up and maybe even turn the heater valve on.

  A simple turn of the heater valve would have helped a lot  ! Maybe not so much with the frozen ears as they are way out in the open air, but the heater will make the cockpit a much more comfortable place in situations like that!

It occurs to me that your car even has the fold-down top, unlike the BEs erector set  , so why didn't you just pull over and pop it up when you started feeling cold?

Pulling over to put the top up after you left the garage is a violation of Man-law 13784. Just like stopping for directions or admitting you knew the car was low on gas!

I agree with Mr Hays. The exception is for a torrential downpour.

This is the 5th vehicle that I have owned that had a removable top. A couple Jeeps- get caught in the rain in one of those things and you just have to deal with it- it also creates a giant vacuum behind that flat windshield which guarantees that not only do you get soaked- you also can't see. I also remember a number of times of getting caught in every kind of bizarre weather anamoly, which occured while either on motorcycles or in a vehicle that had the top removed..

.. or naval submarines with the top down (on the surface in the bridge).

This was one of the reasons that this vehicle appealed to me- I can simply reach behind me and pull the top up. I doubt highly that I will ever use a tonneau or even use the boot.

At the right speed you will never get wet in a moderate rain. Just don't stop.

I agree with all of the above, but the same list for rain strength could be applied to how cold it is!!! BUT... with a good-working heater and the proper head-wear I can attest from experience in NW Pa. winters that the top really need never go up on account of cold!

So does a wind blocker behind front seats. .
