Shop lighting suggestions.

I have just had an 18 x 20' steel building put up as my new shop. I am looking for lighting suggestions. Was thinking of putting in 6 4' LED light fixtures and was also considering adding some outdoor LED floodlights as fill in lights.

Stay away from cheap LED lights.
I bought a bunch from a company that touted a 7 year warrantee.
So far they replaced two units that had bad pull switches.
Two more switches went bad and some of the LEDs went bad.
No more responses from the dealer or manufacturer.

When I rewired the detached garage I put outlets in the ceiling for the lights and tied them to a light switch. The garage is two cars wide by two cars deep; 14 foot high ceiling on one side. PO built it to store their RV. Lighting is the two original 8 ft dual T12 bulb florescent fixtures on the center beam and 7, four foot, four T5 bulb, florescent fixtures. Predates LED fixtures. As one gets older, more light is better. A few years ago had a couple 8 ft florescent fixtures replaced with 8 ft LED fixtures from Lowes (I think) in the attached garage. No issues.

I have noticed that some 4'LED fixtures have a very short life or go on and off. The worst ones came from Sams.

Anyone used this type of light fixture?

David
Looks good. Only point, is this will make more of a "point source" of light, when in a work area distributed light is generally best. But if you have enough fixtures this should not be a problem.

I prefer lights along both walls to prevent working in my own shadow.

400W equivalent in one spot is really bright. Also, the 5000K makes it seem even brighter than it is.

We have a few at work. Very bright. Used mostly for task lighting. Be sure you can mount them high enough. I would say 10 ft or more. George

Thank you

The lighting solution is still under design consideration. I agree that lights along the sides are a good idea. May do a combination setup.
Just found LED ballast delete tubes. You remove the ballast and direct wire these LED tubes. I have several failed T8 fixtures.
