Shock repair

I was looking into the option of rebuilding my shocks. I talked to my mechanic and he says that rebuilt shocks fail 50% of the time.

So my next question is, other than Moss is there any other vendors where I could get new shocks from?

FWIW, my experience with rebuilt shocks has been better than your mechanics. My restoration was finished about five years ago, using rebuilt shocks. No problems so far.

Yep. World Wide Auto Parts in Madison, WI. 18 mo. warrentee. Best in the business. PERIOD.

I had all four shocks rebuilt from a well known vendor. Of the four, two leaked hydraulic fluid, one front and one rear. On the front one, I refilled it, and worked the lever up and down, on the workbench, and eventually it held okay. The rear one still leaks around where the lever leaves the shock body. I would recommend buying new shocks.

. Spoke with him today and mailed all four of my shocks off to him this afternoon. Looking forward to seeing the results

. I was just about to mail my stuff off to Apple Hydraulics when I saw your note. Nothing against Apple, I actually have no experience with either company, but it sure sounds like Peter and his guys really go above and beyond the normal rebuild. Thanks again and happy Healeying.

I bought new shocks from Victoria British in 1999 and they have been just fine. My mechanic felt, as yours does, that the rebuilt ones don't hold up well. Also be sure to check the towers that support the front shocks for signs of cracks and metal fatigue. Those are notorious failure areas for Healeys. We also did the king pins while at it, because I am paranoid about metal fatigue in those things! AL Bradley
