I finally got the rear end out of under the B. It was quite a challenge, as I know it is the first time it has been off. Not only were some of the bolts & nuts rusted, some were covered with the spray on undercoating. :crazy: Now that I have it out I started stripping the auxillary components off (i.e. shocks, re-bound straps, etc.) I was able to remove the shock from the shock link, but how do you get the shock link off of the bracket? I tried to hold the inside collar of the bolt with a needle nose vice grips (The only thing in my box I could get a hold on it with) but it wasnt enough. The bolt keeps turning and the nut is not coming loose. I've sprayed it down with Penetrating oil to no avail. I poured through my Bently service manual and unless I overlooked something there is nothing in the manual that address this. Anyone have any ideas?

If you are going to buy new links, use a grinder/hacksaw/torches to cut the nut off...

If you are going to re-use the links ( not really a good idea since the bonding has gone) ... 'carfully' cut the nut off or use a nut splitter...
 
Thanks Martysh! Sounds like I should replace them so I'll just cut them off. I'm not quite sure what the bonding is but assume it has to do with the ball and cup and it is worn. i plan to improve the suspension so this will work right in with everything else that is getting replaced. Thanks again! :thumbsup:
 
Yeah, you're fighting with a part wot's now scrap anyhow: The back side of the shaft with the nut has two flats for an open-end wrench, but if it's spinning in the link the rubber ("Vulcanised" to the inside of the ball end) is shot. Whack it off with a grinder.
