Which is the better ratio/profile to have? I currently have 185/70 and were told they were much bigger then stock?

from experience, the sizes 175/70-14, 185/65-14 and 195/60-15 are all close enough to the original size that there is not enough difference to throw your speedo out 'noticeably' in normal traffic. Speedo indications will be very close to what you think you're doing in most driving situations (they were for me). For example, if I was doing 10 over the limit I would expect to pass most people (but not all), and that was what I experienced with all three sizes.

Of the 3 sizes, I believe I liked 185/65-14 the most, because it set the car the closest to the ground. 195/60-15 is second with its huge amount of grip. 175/70-14 tires were just too 'wobbly' for me. I believe my next set of tires will be 185/65-15, but that's a few years down the road still. Those 195/60s are new and at an average of 8K miles/year they should last me at least 4 years. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Steve, are you sure that the OEM sidewall was 80%? Even if it was 75% it would still be 23.7” to 23.8” which is closer to the 205/60/14.
They were measured differently, but were somewhere between 75 and 80. I believe the 155 offered on early cars were a little over 80.

Here, if you need exact measurements go to this site: https://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Also see here for impressions of tires and sizes I've used: https://www.mgnuts.com/tidbits/tires/

Feel free to swing by and see a few sizes in person if you like. I have 195/60R14, 195/60R15, 175/65R15 165R14, 165R15, 155R15 and 225/50R15 all mounted on wheels.

I think I might just do that. It's been a while anyway

Just thought id let you all know I went for Goodyear Eagle F1's in the end in a 185/60/14 size. To get a decent tyre in 14" over here is Very hard and even these are discountinued now, really the only other option was going 15" but I want my car to look as stock as possible and id just purchased referb rostyles.

it's pretty much the same status over here. 14 inch 60 series tires are getting more and more difficult to find.
