She was still alive?!?!?!. and really not that old!
 
She was quite a star, and inspiration to millions of people around the world. And Basil's comment about "sunshine in the Depression" - right on the mark.

Here she is in "Bright Eyes" (1934) - story of a little girl and an airport.

Surfing around, I ran across this little bit of history. Being that it's close to the Beatles 50th Anniversary on Ed Sullivan, I thought this was an interesting picture. Shirley with the Beatles and her daughter Lori (sitting on Ringo's lap).
